Biography:
Although born in Kyushu, Japan, near many ceramic centers, Terry Hagiwara discovered the ceramic arts in the U.S. This explains the combination of Southwest forms with Japanese design prevalent in his work. Mr. Hagiwara enjoys traveling as the photo to the right attests, showing him in front of Machu Picchu. Mr. Hagiwara does his ceramic work in the studio at the prestigious Glassell School of Art connected with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Mr. Hagiwara is also an award winning research physicist in the petroleum industry and a published author in that field. This discipline aids him in finding both the symmetry and chaos present in ceramics.
